The School Psychologist Intern works under the direction of a Certified School Psychologist to become familiar with and assist in the duties and responsibilities of the School Psychologist and to fulfill the requirements of ISBE for certification.
Duties and responsibilities include ensuring that all actions are in concert with the Board policies as well as the mission statement, beliefs, objectives, and parameters found in the Board's strategic plan. Participation in job training and professional growth opportunities in order to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the job. Other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment. Meeting with Field Supervisor and supervising certified School Psychologist as required. Using nondiscriminatory evaluation procedures, curricula and other instructional materials. Following legal, regulatory, and ethical parameters in data-based decision making and record keeping. Participating in collaborative decision making and problem solving with other professionals to achieve student success. Using assessment results to identify student-learning needs, develop instructional strategies, and contribute to eligibility and IEP planning recommendations. Using technology-based tools to manage school or system-wide functioning including data collection, analysis, reporting, and presenting effectively and efficiently. Maintaining useful and accurate records and communicating information responsibly to families/guardians, students, colleagues, and community as appropriate. Providing school psychological services (assessment, consultation, intervention and general professional practice) consistent with prevailing legal, ethical, and professional standards and participating in legal requirements for professional development. Practicing ethical, legal, and socially responsible behavior when using technology and computer software.
Qualifications include being enrolled in an Illinois State Board of Education approved School Psychologist program, and released by the university for participation in the internship experience. Ability to be in attendance during school days and work hours determined by the school district. This position requires that the candidate have coursework in education as determined by a school psychologist training program from an accredited university.
